History

ist1In modern conditions of market economy, accelerated development of high technologies is increasing the demand for specialists with broad general education, combined with a narrow specialization, which can quickly modify kind and nature of professional activity, revalue accumulated experience, to analyze their opportunities, acquire new knowledge, using modern information technologies , work on inter-subject projects, use their knowledge of various fields of science i technology. Such specialists are very required at institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, other state structures of Ministries and Administrations as well as non-state ownership structures, which implement science-containing technologies.

Training of experts of such profile at the former Soviet Union was carried out by PhysTech system, founded at Ecol Politecnik (France), Californian University of Technology. Physical-Technical education system in the former USSR was implemented by Nobel Prize laureate academician Kapitsa P.L. at the Moscow Physics and Technology Institute (MPTI). Its principles have found many supporters and were adopted and implemented by several other higher educational institutions. Basic principles of PhysTech education system: deep training in basic science: while a high level of mathematical and physical education; training in foreign languages at an increased time volume; combination of general education in the best university tradition with a narrow specialization and teaching practical skills at basic institutes. As Ukraine gained independence, teaching institutions, which implemented PhysTech education system, unfortunately, remained outside Ukraine.

The first steps in the implementation of structural PhysTech system of education in Ukraine have been performed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Thus, according to enactment of Presidium of NAS of Ukraine №179 from 06.07.1994r. p.6 “On the task of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in solving the urgent problems of economic development of Ukraine” and general order of the Ministry of Education and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine № 25/35 from 14 February 1995, starting from September 1995, was opened the double subordination faculty – Physical - Tehnichnical Faculty of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTU “KPI”). This event was preceded by extensive preparatory work, was carried out the search of various forms of such a structure, that would combine experience of leading scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, who are engaged in actual research of the highest modern standards, and the highly qualified teachers, experienced in lecturing, with an experience, which comes after many years of work with students. Faculty of Physics and Technology at NTUU “KPI” was the first in Ukraine faculty of double (Ministry of Education and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) subordination.

In the founding of  faculty participated administration of Ministry of Education and the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, leading scientists and educationists of Ukraine, among them – Minister of Education of Ukraine (1994-1999r.) Academician M. Zgurovsky, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Academician Boris Paton, the first Vice President of NAS Ukraine (1990-1999r.) Academician V. Baryahtar , Academicians Yu. Daletskyi, A. Shidlovskii and others. According to general order of the Minister of Education of Ukraine and President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine dated 27 April 1995 № 62/117 PhysTech been granted the right to conduct training of Specialists accordingly to experimental plans in the specialities “Applied Physics” (Specialist in “Applied Physics”) and “Applied mathematics” (Specialist in “Informatics”).
A new stage was the creation at the faculty in 1997 year of the Department of Applied Physics under the leadership of Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Academician Shpak A.P. The department had stand at head of  the process of training the students at Faculty at General and Theoretical Physics, Professionally-oriented and Specialized training of students in the base institutions of Ukraine in the speciality of “Applied Physics” (Specialist in “Applied Physics“). Since 2002 the department is headed by deputy Pro Rector of NTU “KPI“, Dr. of Tech. Science, Prof. Voronov Sergei Alexandrovich.

Established in 1999, the Department of Informational Security, headed by Dr. Tech. Science Prof. Novikov Alexei Nikolaevich, has taken responsibility for Mathematical, Computer, Professionally-oriented and Specialized training of students in the base institutions of Ukraine, state budget and commercial establishments accordingly to speciality “Applied mathematics” (Specialist in “Computer Science”, Specialization “Applied informatics”, “The technology of protection of information”). At the same time the department began training of Specialists in newly-created, urgent for the development of state economy speciality “Informational Security”. On the basis of Faculty of Physics and Technology in August 1999 was established the Institute of Physics and Technology (IPT). Besides  Faculty of Physics and Technology to IPT were incorporated Faculty of Informational Security (FIS), Faculty of Pre-University Training, complex educational laboratories in physics, educational laboratories of computer technologies, a training center for advanced studies and retraining of Specialists in the speciality informational security, Design Department “Storm” and Scientific-Research Center “Accoustics”. Together with the Department of Informational Security at FIS was created departments of Mathematical Methods of Information Protection and Physical and Technical Means of Protection of Information.

The primary purpose of creation of Department of Mathematical Methods of Information Protection (Head - Dr. Phy.-Math. Siences, Prof. Savchuk Mihaylo Mykolayovich) is the arrangement of scientific-pedagogical activity and training Specialists in the speciality mathematical methods of information protection (Specialist in “Computer Science”, specialization Applied Cryptology” with educational direction “Applied Mathematics “) on the base of  fundamental teaching courses in mathematical analysis, algebra, general algebra, theory of algorithms and mathematical logic, discrete mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics.

Department of Physics and Technical Means of Protection of Information (Head – Dr. Tech. Sciences, Prof. Machussky Yevheniy Andriyovych) trains Specialists in the speciality of technical protection of information accordingly to direction “Informational Security” (Specialist in “Protection of information with restricted access and automation of it’s processing” ). The Department conducts classes with students of different profession in the physical areas – acoustics, electronics, radio engineering, systems of physical and technical protection of information, scientific work in the field of electronics, acoustics, radio engineering, inertial systems of technical protection of information.

ist2Now Institute of Physics and Technology trains Specialists in,  which can be able to provide the technological independence and information security of Ukraine. Throughout the program of studies, students receive education in the level of the best universities of the World, as evidenced by numerous decisive victories in International Student Olympics in London, Budapest Teheran, Prague. Graduates work in institutions NAS of Ukraine, the institutions of state authority of Ukraine, institutions and firms of state and private property, where the basic requirements to employees are high intellect, deep knowledge, ability to work in conditions of stiff intellectual competition.
